SUMMARY:Winter Tree ID Walk at Hemlock Bluffs State Natural Area, Cary NC
DESCRIPTION:Hemlock Bluffs is a 140 acre nature preserve owned by the State and managed by the Town of Cary.  The steep north-facing bluffs above the Swift Creek floodplain provide cool conditions that allowed hemlocks and other mountain plants to remain long after most retreated from the Piedmont to the mountains after the last ice age.\nMatthew Archibald, Arborist at Leaf & Limb, will help us practice our tree identification skills.\nWith luck we’ll also find the floodplain and lower slopes at Hemlock Bluffs carpeted with trout lilies!  At the least we’ll get our exercise descending the 100+ step staircase to the floodplain’s boardwalk loop – and then back up to go see the hemlocks and beech flat (more staircases, though optional).\nCap of 18 people.  Registration required, click here. NCNPS members have priority to register.\nRegistration will open to non-members on February 12.\nMore info about Hemlock Bluffs\n
