SUMMARY:Triad Winter Sowing & Seed Exchange at Hagan Stone Park (note change to shelter 7)
DESCRIPTION:Holiday cheer arrives with our winter sowing program Saturday, Dec. 5, starting at 12:45 p.m. at Shelter Seven in Hagan Stone Park. Enter the park and take first left and shelter is on right (see map ( https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/home/showdocument?id=166 )).\n\nWe hope you have been collecting and cleaning seeds this fall and will continue to do so as the late bloomers may not yet have set seeds. Please remember that we are requesting individual packages to share rather than large containers or bags. This will help with social distancing. Most trees, shrubs and vines probably need no more than 10 seeds per pack, but perennials can have many. No need to count; just use your own judgement. And there are many ways to package seeds, such as using mailing envelopes from pesky junk mail we all get. Please try to include both botanical names as well as common names if you can. Please remember that you can come and get some seeds, even if you don’t have any to share. Many of us bring multiple packages, so we always have plenty.\n\n\n\nAs in years past, the Chapter will provide hot water for hot tea, cider, and cups and napkins. You are encouraged to bring snacks or other treats to share, of course.\nThe native hazelnut, Corylus sp., seeds are protected by beautiful sepals (by Nancy Lee Adamson)\n\n\nSCHEDULE:\n\n\n12:45 – 1:15 Arrive and give seeds to committee member to arrange. If you bring snacks to share, put them on a separate table, which will be designated. Socialize and start snacking, if you arrive during this time.\n\n1:15 – 1:45 Seed selection time\n\n1:45 + Winter sowing demonstration by Judy West and Lynda Waldrep, ending with option for winter sowing a jug. This activity is especially helpful for those who have not done winter sowing before. Please let us know at least 10 days ahead of time (Nov. 26) if you want to plant a container so that we will have the appropriate number of jugs and potting soil. (lyndawaldrep@aol.com)\n\nAll are encouraged to stay and watch and have a great social time, too. You can even bring a folding chair if you want. We have rented the shelter for the entire day, so there is no rush. Miss plant chatter? Stay and talk with like minded friends. We hope to see you there!\n\nAs of this writing, masks and social distancing will be required.\n\nHagan Stone https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/county-parks/hagan-stone-park ; 5920 Hagan-Stone Park Rd, Pleasant Garden, NC 27313\n\n\n
