SUMMARY:Cary Tree Archive and Pollinator Garden Field Trip, Cary
DESCRIPTION: \nLeaders: George McDowell & Richard Carroll\nThe Cary Tree Archive is the transformation of eight acres of HOA-owned land, once consisting of frequently mowed grass and weeds, into the beginning of an Old Growth forest that includes a pollinator garden, a fruit & nut orchard, and the attempt to re-create a Longleaf pine savanna. The Town of Cary’s White Oak Greenway, which is itself part of the East Coast Greenway that runs from Maine to the Florida Keys, runs through the Archive for a distance of about 2,000 feet. Preference for trees planted in the Archive is given to those with notable ancestry. The Archive, when planting is completed on September 25 of this year, will have been planted by about 400 volunteers in 34 various groups. NCNPS awarded the project a B.W. Wells Stewardship grant for the pollinator garden.\nWe are limiting the group to 25 and will break into two groups at the site so George McDowell can tell us about the Tree Archive and Richard Carroll about the \nLillian Mae Carroll Native Pollinator Garden (we’ll swap midway so everyone can learn about both). Registration required – sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D44ADAA29A7F58-cary\nIf you have any questions, contact ReidChapter@gmail.com\nThe Cary Tree Archive is located on HOA open space along the White Oak Creek Greenway between NW Cary Parkway and MacArthur Drive.\nParking is available at 101 YMCA Drive, Cary 27513. It’s about an 800-yard hike to get to the garden. The Taylor Family YMCA [101 YMCA Drive, Cary 27513] kindly allows those on Archive business [or pleasure] to use their parking lot. This page gives directions from there: https://www.carytreearchive.org/access.php\nOr you can park at Davis Drive Park and walk or bike down the newest segment of White Oak Creek Greenway and see the new mural on the east side of the tunnel under the railroad track which features native wildflowers and animals.\n \n
