SUMMARY:Removing Undesirables for Passive Ecosystem Restoration. Discussion and Exploration.
DESCRIPTION:\n\nOwner of Above the Briery native plant nursery, Karen Mulcahy, will guide a hike on her property and share information about managing invasive plants. In mid-March, we may see Bloodroot, Spicebush, Horsesugar, Carolina Allspice, Leucothoe, Heartleaf Ginger, and other plants in bloom. Most certainly ferns and other plants will be popping up everywhere. The property is only a few acres but ranges from dry upland, down shady slopes with seeps appearing near their bases leading to wetlands and a stream. It is a mixed woodland of soft and hardwoods where many trees are over 100 years old and feet tall. Not all areas have been cleared of invasive species providing a comparison.\n\n \nAttendees are welcome to take cuttings or dig a young plant from the woods to take home.  Bring a pot or box to carry your booty. Above the Briery native plants will be available for purchase as well. Attendees are also welcome to yank out as many invasive plants as they wish!  Expect uneven and possibly damp footing. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Mask wearing is required when in close proximity to one another.\n\n\n\nThis event is open to NCNPS members and their guests. Number of participants may be limited. \nPlease RSVP to docsmom201@gmail.com if you wish to attend.  Directions will be provided to attendees prior to the event.\n\n\n \nThe original date for this event was 3/12/2022 and has now been rescheduled to the Rain date of March 19, 2022 1:30 pm.\n
