Learn to Identify Trees & Shrubs in the Winter
January 17, 2024
We are booked in the small meeting room at KCE Library for the 3rd Wednesday of the month for the next 3 months at 10:00 am. These gatherings are being led by Judy West.
For this gathering we would like to look at identifying trees and shrubs in the winter. If you want to bring in twigs and/or fruits (nuts) from assorted species we will try to key them out. We could use the Winter Tree Finder Booklet by Mary T. Watts and Tom Watts and any other books that anyone has available to bring. I will bring my laptop so we could possibly look at the website with a dichotomous key from NCSU, https://herbarium.ncsu.edu/TwigID/keys.htm. Feel free to bring in other sources you know about.
One nice video I found is Winter Tree Identification Basics which just covers the basics for beginners or refresher information for more experienced folks, if you want to check it out sometime.
